Medical Care Information
(as of September2005)

National Health Insurance

The teacher of Matty’s School of English must enroll in the government medical & dental insurance plan.  When you apply for your foreign registration card in Japan, you will also register for this insurance.

At the time of enrollment, a certificate indicating the insurance plan will be issued and should be presented to the consulting physician before any medical treatment is administered.

A packet of monthly insurance premium statements will be sent to you which may be paid at the local post office.  For the first year, the payment is about \4,550 per month when you report no income before coming to Japan.  The second year premiums will be higher, because of the past year’s income.

The government insurance plan covers 70% of medical and dental costs; the remaining 30% is assumed by the insured.

In the case of extensive medical treatment (e.g. hospitalization), depending the enrollment date, and when the insured person become ill or injured, the maximum medical payments would be \35,400 to \63,600 per month.  Anything over this figure would be reimbursed according to the health care policy of the insurance.
The above information is subject to change by the government.
